A recent break from the heavy rain California experienced this winter had me itching for another adventure at Mount Tamalpais. Although the storms have been an annoyance and even life altering for some, they have definitely given Mother Nature a fresh start allowing for even more lush playgrounds to be explored. Cataract Falls had been on my hiking bucket list for some time and my daytrip there with some girlfriends did not disappoint.
Mount Tamalpais State Park is a phenomenal treasure of Marin County and for many reasons. The high elevation of the park offers far-reaching views of the Pacific where the Farallon Islands are visible, along with the San Francisco Bay and city itself, and rolling hills that meet with lush patches of redwood forests.
Apple Hill is the perfect place to embrace and indulge in the changing seasons with its rolling hills, colorful trees, and plentiful harvest that provides tasty treats of all kinds. Here are some of my favorite stops on the hill.
Below are some of my favorite hikes in the Sierras that I feel obliged to share because they are amazing in so many ways. Before embarking on any of these adventures, take a picture of the map and for safety reasons and let friends and family know where you are planning on hiking. Be sure to wear shoes with good ankle support, take plenty of water and snacks, and most importantly, leave the area cleaner than you found it.
